LxCenter downtime http://lxcenter.org/374-lxcenter-downtime.htm http://lxcenter.org/374-lxcenter-downtime.htm#comments Thu, 24 Mar 2011 13:48:16 +0000 http://lxcenter.org/?p=374 We’ve had a days downtime after one of LxCenters main servers crashed, bringing down most of our infrastructure. Currently everything seems in order for a couple of hours, and we don’t expect any more issues.

We apologize for any inconvenience and we will do our best to avoid this happening again. LxCenter will be updating this post as system administrators and friendly people at the datacenter try to figure out what went wrong.

We are looking for a developer specializing in IPv6 http://lxcenter.org/354-we-are-looking-for-a-developer-specializing-in-ipv6.htm http://lxcenter.org/354-we-are-looking-for-a-developer-specializing-in-ipv6.htm#comments Thu, 10 Feb 2011 02:21:44 +0000 http://lxcenter.org/?p=354 We are looking for a Developer that can implement IPv6 functionality into HyperVM and Kloxo.

If you are the one we are looking for? contact us.

IPv6 is the next generation of IP addresses. There are no more IPv4 addresses to spend soon. Many Datacenters these days are asking too much money for IPv4 addresses. It is impossible to use all the IPv6 addresses, just because it are so many. Every person on earth can have a own IPv6 range, every device on earth can have a own IPv6 address. And if that is not enough, we can give also from the same IPv6 space,  every person on planet mars a IPv6 range :)
Just to imagine the amount of IP’s we can all use with IPv6.

Many DataCenters, ISP’s and networks are IPv6 ready.

Kloxo 6.1.1 released http://lxcenter.org/317-kloxo-6-1-1-released.htm http://lxcenter.org/317-kloxo-6-1-1-released.htm#comments Thu, 06 Jan 2011 07:19:44 +0000 http://lxcenter.org/?p=317 Yesterday a new release of Kloxo was released. 6.1.1 is a minor bugfix release, including fixes for:

•Bug #388: phpMyAdmin Configfile wrong permission (thirdparty 2013)
•Bug #391: Forbidden: You don’t have permission to access /index.html on this server.
•Bug #396: InstallApp icon in kloxo 6.1.0 not working

Update through your control panel (update home) our via commandline (/script/upcp) as normal.

Now that the InstallApp script is working again, it would be nice if we could have the community volunteer to update the 100+ scripts. Find info on how to do that here.

You can update via the panel or /script/upcp via command line. You might have seen

The code is now open source (encryption has been removed) – and if you missed it AGPL. This should make it easier for all to do maintenance and feature development.

In this release we have also cut the connections to the old license server. The license server is still needed with HyperVM.

It’s been quite a task; looking into one mans code and patches. A lot of cleanup or completely recoding is still necessary – we hope you’ll join in. Even though the team is new and small, we’ve learnt a lot for this past year, and this should only speed things up in the future.

Some of the fixes in this release:
Bug #8: 500 domain limit
Bug #21: Password protected directory feature does not work
Bug #31: AWBS Module Lxadmin with Kloxo has no connection
Bug #43: Error while saving a file edited using the inbuilt text editor
Bug #74: Apache not restarted after changing / adding protected directories
Bug #242: Typo in lxins.php
Bug #246: Switching back from suphp to mod_php does not work
Bug #273: MySQL disk usage = 0 MB
Bug #277: Bug in validate_domain_name
Bug #313: document root created with wrong ownership
Bug #317: lxguard hits PHP Fatal error: Out of Memory
Bug #364: error while adding a mail account to a .travel domain
Bug #366: kloxo scheduled backups by FTP are not deleted automatically
Feature #6: InstallApp outdated
Updates #54: Removing Licence server contact
Updates #283: phpMyAdmin 3.3.4
Updates #342: Speed improvements
Security #88: Kloxo Single Server 6.0.2083 Stable multiple vulnerabilities
Security #244: Remote CPU and memory usage DoS
Security #268: Local users can obtain the password hashes from the stats page protection files or from directory protection files
Security #341: Remotely block any or every IP addresses in hosts.deny
ToDo #303: Fix thirdparty hardcoded version numbers
ToDo #353: Command line in cron jobs should be longer

On another note: Happy New Year.

LxCenter Will Attend HostingCon 2011 http://lxcenter.org/303-lxcenter-will-attend-hostingcon-2011.htm http://lxcenter.org/303-lxcenter-will-attend-hostingcon-2011.htm#comments Thu, 23 Dec 2010 18:17:20 +0000 http://lxcenter.org/?p=303 Arthur Thornton, one of the co-heads of LxCenter, will be attending HostingCon 2011 as a representative of LxCenter.

As you all know, LxCenter is a not-for-profit organization operating off of donor funds. We do not charge for our products, nor do we charge for support. We currently have about half of the money necessary to afford HostingCon and the travel expenses. At the time of HostingCon, 8th August – 10th August, we should have released a couple new versions of both Kloxo and HyperVM. In fact, at this time, we are nearing a public release of the next versions of both.

The main reasons for us to attend HostingCon would be to speak with representatives of hosting companies from around the world, as well as to garner support from those hosting companies. If we can get them to migrate over from their current solutions, we will have more users and we will definitely be able to continue development. If we can get more companies to support us, then we can get more development done faster. The main reason is that we will have more servers for development purposes. Additionally, if we get support from companies throughout the world, we will be able to provide a better experience through our download servers. As opposed to forcing every client to rely on the servers we have in the USA, we could provide more local download servers, possibly some in Europe, a couple more in North America (such as Canada and Mexico), and maybe even one or two in the Australia and Oceana region.

Additionally, the opportunity to meet with representatives in the hosting industry is an opportunity we cannot pass up.

At this time, we are asking for donations of money. We need about $350 USD to cover the costs of attendance and travel. We need that money by 14th March to get the best rates possible for the travel, as rates in the USA go up rather quickly for summertime travel.

Please Donate to help Arthur Thornton travel to San Diego for HostingCon 2011

Andre Allen Resigns as Project Manager http://lxcenter.org/258-andre-allen-resigns-as-project-manager.htm http://lxcenter.org/258-andre-allen-resigns-as-project-manager.htm#comments Wed, 02 Jun 2010 05:00:04 +0000 http://lxcenter.org/?p=258 Andre Allen has resigned his post as Project Manager.

Andre has resigned his post, after just over 3 months as project manager. He has gone on to pursue other interests.

After his resignation, Danny contacted another individual who has shown leadership within the projects and Danny and Arthur are now in the process of determining if he is the best person for the job.

The Consortium and its volunteer developers all would like to send their thanks to Andre. He did a good job leading us and he did a great job managing partnership relations.

We have appointed a new project manager. The projects will continue, and our new Development Manager has high hopes for the projects.

We will miss the guidance Andre offered, but we welcome our new Development Manager.
